Alexis Vassal (France)
Alexis, also known as Merman Arion, was born in Paris, France in 1989, the same year Disney’s “The Little Mermaid” came out. Born deaf, Alexis got his first hearing aids at the age of 5. He discovered schooling and swimming and found a deep connection with the ocean, always the first into the water and the last one out. He finally saw “The Little Mermaid” and that inspired him to become the merman he is today. He always found the silence beneath the surface to be relaxing and grants him his escape from daily life.
Andrew Lau (Hong Kong)
Andrew Lau , an experienced PADI dive instructor and also a professional underwater photographer. His passion of underwater photography leads to his multi categories of awards in international underwater photography contests. He is also keen on underwater portrait , which garnered 2 years’ awards of Voice of Ocean – Fashion photo of the year.

Beatrice Rivoira (Italy)
Beatrice is an Italian marine biologist and addicted scuba diver. She has started at the age of 16 following her brother and father’s footsteps and never stopped since. Her passion for marine life and scuba diving influenced her study path and, in 2011, she completed her university period with a Master’s degree in Marine & Oceanographical biology. .
Simultaneously she continued with her diving career working for many years in some of the most beautiful islands of the Mediterrean Sea (Isola d’Elba and Sardegna) and on the reefs of Pulau Bangka (Indonesia).
With a strong background in military, commercial, recreational and technical diving, David Strike has authored several hundred articles about diving, is the recipient of the ADEX ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’ for contributions to Technical Diving, a Fellow of the Explorers Club of New York, the former owner and organiser of the biennial OZTeK Technical Diving Conference, and the convenor of the up-coming, Australian in-water Tek event, TechTonik.
Ernest H. Brooks(USA)
Ernest H. Brooks – ambassador to the marine environment, photographer, adventurer, diver and educator – has captured profound images in the blue. Armed with the same camera that he’s used to document life below the waves for over 40 years, through the trademark black and white imagery that he’s used to beautifully present the ocean, Brooks has amassed a portfolio unlike any other.
Winning countless awards, and being published in myriad international publications, Brooks has earned an almost legendary status within the underwater photography community.
Frederic Buyle is a Belgian freediver. After setting several world records in the 90’s he turned to underwater photography. He uses his freediving skills to help marine scientists all over the world. His work focuses on positive imagery to support ocean conservation.
Glenn Yong (Singapore)
Glenn having received a design education from a young age, he usually presents his visuals very much in a rather “minimalist” approach, defining only what is essential and critical to the needs of the user, even till now, we see the minimalist design approach in his professional work in Photography
Presenting photography in a minimalist concept is challenging, sometimes made even harder because Light is not always forgiving, it takes a special interest, to understand and to know how light reacts and how light colors react in different times of the day.
Glenn has taken the approach one step further, understanding Light beneath the ocean, and have recently been accredited as a Master Photographer in United Kingdom with the Master Photographer’s Association, for his confidence and consistency in producing images of professional quality and visuals of stunning details and colors and a member of Weddings, Portrait Photographer International, WPPI ( United States ) and memberships with Canon Professional Services and Nikon Professional Services.

Hidy started modeling at a young age of 18 and was the 2011 Miss Scuba International Ambassador. She is a dive instructor qualified by NAUI (National Association of Underwater Instructors) and also the Naui Worldwide Ambassador. Jim Chen (Taiwan Greater China)
Jim Chen loves extreme sports and underwater photography combines both adventure and art creation perfectly. In 2007, he was certified as an open water diver and in 2008, his underwater photography journey began. Born in London, England, Leslie Leaney started diving in 1969 around the island of Singapore. He progressed through the BSAC system and became a scuba instructor, Club Expedition Director and eventually Diving Officer, for BSAC Special Branch in Singapore. During his two-and-a-half year tenure he trained several dozen divers and was responsible for the training curriculum of over a dozen instructors and over 70 active recreational divers.

Former Freediving champion and now a full time photographer and filmmaker, Pepe Arcos is an award winning multitalented shooter that explores this underwater domain, holding breath for minutes at a time to capture unique images of ethereal calm. A talented individual who dodge even greater odds to document aspects of the underwater world that even the fastest scuba diver will fail to capture.
Tobias Friedrich started taking underwater photos in 2007. Since then, he has been published in a number of prestigious scuba diving magazines. He is passionate about taking on new challenges, and is constantly looking for new and creative ways to take underwater photographs.
William Tan has been fascinated with the creatures of the sea since his childhood. While studying at Johns Hopkins University in the USA, much of his spare time was spent gazing at the marine collection of the National Aquarium in Baltimore. William travels extensively throughout the Pacific region judging underwater photo competitions, and photographing marine life for tourism organisations, scientific research groups, dive magazines, camera manufacturers, and resorts.

Alan Lo is a commercial photographer based in Hong Kong and a scuba diving aficionado. He expresses his passion for the underwater world through his multifaceted approach to photography, which is grounded in his innovative and artistic interpretation of life, people and Nature. Alan’s work has evolved and progressed significantly over the last 20 years, from his early creative print work and exhibitions, through a range of architectural commissions, commercial projects and personal photographic explorations. These opportunities, combined with his creative drive, have helped develop a wide range of skills and photographic styles as well as a tight and punchy approach to image creation.
ADEX Ambassador for Freediving
Alexey Molchanov has set the new Constant Weight (CWT) Freediving World Record. The freediving superstar broke his own AIDA World Record in Constant Weight (CWT) by diving to 129m in 3min 50sec. Despite strong currents, this record beat his previous World Record depth of 128m set in 2013 at the AIDA Depth World Championships in Kalamata, Greece.
Andrew Marriott (USA)
Andrew is a long time diver, photographer and writer. Originally from the USA he found the ocean while working in the world of financial derivatives. After a move to Guam he devoted himself full time to the ocean, helping many new divers fall in love with the water while working as an instructor and enthusiastic underwater photographer. After much encouragement from his friends and students, he devoted himself full time to taking and sharing his images and writing about diving. His writing and photos have appeared in major magazines across the world and he is the author of the book Legends Beneath the Waves Vol. 1: Truk Lagoon. Currently he is working on the next two books in that series while living in Beijing with his awesome wife Dalice and two daughters Elly and EJ “Doomy”.
Bart Lukasik is a professional underwater videographer and dive expedition guide. Over the past 5 years he has gathered vast diving and filming experience working on different projects on the east coast of Southern Africa. Bart’s work has been published worldwide by respected natural history content providers.

Dada Li, humbly is the first Chinese female PADI Master Freediver Instructor and AIDA international freediving instructor and Judge. Single handedly created the first professional underwater performance team composed of freedivers only. For her commitments and contributions towards her work well done, she was interviewed by Reuters, China Central Television, Guangdong TV, Jiangsu TV and other well-known Medias as well.
Doudou started her dancing career when she was 6 years old. At the age of 16, she was fascinated by outdoor sports. She quickly learned and mastered skiing, sailing, free diving, surfing and motorbiking. Her enthusiasm for outdoor sports let her see the world in the different way and start a new career life.
She traveled to more than a hundred of countries around the world to capture the beauty of the diversified life and devote herself to the protection of nature and spread the spirit of exploration.
Eve Young was a participant in the Lijiang Oriental girl contest and won the Yunnan division title. From there, she moved on and won the National title. With excellent ability and outstanding performance with her belief in “Believe in Life” positive vibe. She became a host, an actress a model and more! However, Eve’s first love is with professional diving, catch her live in this underwater world, and let us look forward to meeting this freediving princess in person!
Gideon Liew has been diving since 1984 and is passionate about scuba diving. He began his experience just like most divers, being in awe of diverse environments available in South East Asia from pristine reefs to mysterious wrecks. His love of the sport drove him to seek out a career in the diving industry in 1994, working with different dive stores and resort operations in the region. He developed his experience diving frequently as a guide as well as teaching divers from island bases to live-aboard boats
Herbert Nitsch is the current freediving world record holder and ìthe Deepest Man on Eartht. This prestigious title was given to him when he then set the world record for freediving at an incredible depth of 214 meters (702 feet) in 2007 in the No Limit discipline. He surpassed this world record with a No Limit dive to 253.2 m (830.8 ft) in 2012.
Jean-Pol Francois (Belgium/Phillippines)
JP is a professional passionate Freediving Instructor, Head of Education at AIDA International and PADI IT. With over 25 years of free diving experience, and holding some National and World records, JP travelled all around South-East Asia to share his passion and develop a free diving community, becoming recognised as not only the Godfather of Freediving instructors or Athletes, but also the Godfather of most of the AIDA Judges in Asia and many around the world.
Joyce Ng (Hong Kong)
Joyce’s diving journey started in 2011, and now she is a PADI dive master and Hong Kong’s first real mermaid. Passionate for underwater photography, Joyce garnered awards for international underwater photo contests and have been published in various magazines. She hopes that her photos will let everyone see the beauty of the ocean and motivate them to realize that we need to protect it. Joyce has taken her ideas of conservation and human connection to another level. She has also put her camera down, and swims into other photographers’ frames as an underwater model and mermaid as she endeavors to make the ocean-human connection more tangible.
Laurent Ballesta studied marine biology, which culminated in a Master’s degree. He discovered a species of fish hitherto unknown in the Western Mediterranean. Combining his passion for underwater photography with his work as a biologist, Laurent has won numerous awards, and has been featured in international publications.
Lynn Wu (Taiwan Greater China)
Lynn Wu found a passion for the underwater world during a trip to Palau in 2006. She likes taking macro objects and her works have been published in various magazines and newspapers, she also won several awards including the Compact Camera Photo of the Year for Deepblu ADEX Voice of the Ocean 2016.
Thomas Dederichs is the President of OMS – Ocean Management Systems, and the CEO and Founder of BtS EUROPA AG. He has been diving for more than 35 years and has clocked more than 2000 dives. He has over 10 years of experience as a TDI Inspiration Instructor and TDI Advanced Trimix Instructor Trainer. He is also qualified as a GUE Fundamentals Instructor, GUE Cave II diver as well as PADI OWSI. Furthermore, Thomas led a Dive & Travel adventure team to explore wrecks in the Irish Sea.

Asian Diver Filed Editor for China, Wu Li Xin is a tek diver and professional underwater photographer who has many accolades under his name, such as the silver award for macro photography at the 11th World Underwater Photography Championships. Besides being an avid underwater explorer, Wu is also a contract photographer with Chinese National Geography, as well as a member of the China Artistic Photography Academy.
